About

Flávio Malaguti is a brazilian Barcelona-based sculptor whose practice investigates self-perception, identity, and transformation through a queer perspective. His work approaches the body as a site where cultural narratives, memory, and imagination intersect. Through surreal and biomorphic forms that merge the familiar with the uncanny, his sculptures engage with the folklore of his hometown, Florianópolis, an island in the south of Brazil.

Working across 3D sculpting, clay modeling, and photogrammetry, Malaguti develops a visual language informed by surrealism, futurism, spatialism, and traditions associated with fantastic realism. His work draws from the island’s syncretic cultural landscape, shaped by the encounters between original peoples, African diasporic cultures, and Azorean traditions.

Berlin, Online - jan-march/2025

During my residency at GlogauAIR, I explored armor as both a physical and symbolic form through photogrammetry and 3D sculpting. Using my body in various poses as the foundation for digital sculptures, I aimed to reimagine armor and surface as reflections of identity, strength, and vulnerability. By combining natural textures with surreal forms, I examined the tension between concealment, revelation, and the construction of self.
