New media artist, Digital / Physical Sculptor

Flávio Malaguti (b. 1987 Rio de janeiro, Brazil) is a Barcelona based-sculptor and digital artist. Through the use of surreal, biomorphic forms that seamlessly merge the familiar with the alien, his artistic practice delves deeply into themes of self-perception and identity, with a special focus on the diverse experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.

Working across with 3D sculpting, clay modeling, and photogrammetry, Malaguti’s work is enriched by an array of influences—ranging from surrealism and futurism to spatialism and anthropomorphism.

His work is not only a personal exploration of identity and transformation but also a universal dialogue that speaks to the interplay between nature, technology, and the human experience.

During my residency at GlogauAIR, I will explore armor as both a physical and symbolic form through photogrammetry and 3D sculpting. Using my body in various poses as the foundation for digital sculptures, I aim to reimagine armor and surface as reflections of identity, strength, and vulnerability. By combining natural textures with surreal forms, I will examine the tension between concealment, revelation, and the construction of self.
